Master System - Game Gear - Genesis - Sega CD - 32X - Nomad - Saturn - Dreamcast

- History -
The 32X was a device Sega released to combat its rivals in the first attempt to revolutionize the gaming market.
The 32X went up against systems like the 3DO which had a powerful software base, the CDI which was trying to merge the PC and console markets and the much hyped Atari Jaguar.
As far as power was concerned, the 32X outclassed all but the Jaguar and sales were pretty much neck and neck throughout its life. The problem was that neither console was attracting the large game publishers because of a fw querks in the design of them.
The 32X was a good add on though...
Sega had originally created a DSP chip that was used in a Genesis game (Virtua Racing) and wanted to give game publishers the freedom to use the technology in future Genesis titles. This idea slowly evolved into the 32X. Ironically the simple idea had become rather complex and the high price tag on the add-on wasnt helping.
Sega used this time to learn from its mistakes and decided it would be better to start fresh with a whole new system that wasnt based on the same architecture (thus removing limitations).
Soon after, the Saturn would emerge.
...but those who had the 32X know it wasnt bad at all.
