The SegaCD was released in the early 90's. Sega had been watching the
progress of CD games and softtware as the format began to become popular.
The growing abilities of the Turbo Grafx CD presented a real challenge
to any system with limited memory storage. This add on was originally released
in a much larger version that attached to the bottom of the Genesis. It
was a lot more bulky and a lot more expensive. The price tage kept the
Sega CD from becomeing widely successful though and when the cheaper vesion
was eventually released, the gaming public had moved on to other formats.
The Sega CD will forever be remembered for helping to usher in the era of the CD though and dispite its mediocre sales and support, it was a very powerful addition to the Sega family. There are games such as "Lunar" that have always been heralded as enough reason to own this system. I must agree completely. |
