Master System - Game Gear - Genesis - Sega CD - 32X - Nomad - Saturn - Dreamcast

- History -
The Sega Genesis was released in 1989 when the world was firm in the grip of Nintendo. Sega had been planning on doing so for some time but losses from the inevitable failure of the Master System and a reluctance to expand by game production companies kept Segs from doing so until the decade was almost over.

When the Genesis was released, Sega blitzed the airwaves with a slew of commercials. Soon every kid at school was talking about playing games that looked "just like" the arcades. People started slowly but soon flocked to stores to buy the awesome new console. Games like "Altered Beast" (a classic at the arcade) and Golden Axe insured that Sega had started on a bright road.
The success of the Genesis continued for several years and eventually the once feared Nintendo became a bitter rival. The Genesis allowed Sega to do something that wasnt believed possible... to challeng the reign of Nintendo and actually come out on top.
At one point, the Genesis not only outsold the NES but the SNES as well.
Eventually because of the technology the Genesis was built around, it became dated.
The graphics of the SNES were centered around a much more advanced chip and the sound was as well.
despite the slow CPU of the SNES, these advantages would slowly catch up to SEGA.
...leading them to expand into the next arena...
The 32 bit Market...
