The Game Gear was Sega's answer to the Game Boy. with a color screen
and superior processor the Game Gear sold vey well. A ingenious advertising
blitz almost destroyed the Game Boy's market share and titles flooded the
scene for Sega's new color portable. The Game Gear remained on top of the
market for some time until eventually game developers lost interest in
the portable market. The Game Gear is based on a similar makeup and an
identical CPU as the Master System. At one point a converter devide was
relesed that allowed Master System titles to be played on the GG. The main
problem with this system was its battery usage. It would dran 6 AA batteries
in just over 4 hours. Batteries cost quite a bit which made using this
system costly. the fact that it was 8-bit was also a downside. Gamers were
ready for something better...
...unfortunately it would be a while before that would happen. Dispite its problems, the Game Gear was an excellent system and a lot of fun to play on the run. |
